Research Description

The goal of our work is to gain an understanding the role of oxidative stress in the etiology of diseases of the reproductive system including prostate and ovarian cancer, hypogonadism associated with aging (andropause) and diabetes. Our studies are centered on mitochondrial biology. We have a long standing interest steroid hormone biochemistry-- steroidogenesis and steroid action. The unifying theme of the work is immune-endocrine and environmental control of male reproductive health, in particular how the immune system and the environment affect Leydig cell function.
