Tiruppathi, ChinnaswamyPh.D., University of Madras Research Interests Research Description Our primary research interest is to study the molecular mechanism that regulates vascular inflammation. Pro- inflammatory mediator thrombin induces vascular inflammation by cleaving the endothelial cell surface protease activated receptor-1 (PAR-1). PAR-1 activation causes vascular leakage and neutrophil adhesion-mediated vascular injury. Ca2+ signaling plays an important role in the mechanism of thrombin-induced vascular injury. Currently, we are investigating how thrombin increases intracellular Ca2+ by opening plasma membrane transient receptor potential channels expressed in endothelial cells. In addition, we are also investigating the role of Ca2+ signaling in the mechanism of nuclear factor ?B (NF-?B) activation- dependent expression of inflammatory genes in endothelial cells.
